Recreational

Our Recreational Program consists of self-paced month-to-month classes that start with a variety of parented and non-parented Kinder Program classes that progress to our Foundations Program for ages six and older. Our Recreational Program is freely accessible, based on readiness and skill level.  It is our philosophy that every child’s placement instills confidence, perseverance and determination and at the same time challenges their physical skills and mental abilities.

Please use the Register Now button to register your child for one of our recreational gymnastics classes in our self-serve customer portal. Not sure what program to choose? Kinder Program

Our Kinder Program is the ideal start to physical activity for preschool aged children and starts with parented and non-parented Kinder Program classes, moving aspiring young gymnasts from weeKin, to miniKin, and munchKin. These classes allow for the development of patterning, spatial awareness and problem solving as athletes are encouraged to explore space and equipment in a safe manner. They progress at their own rate and are identified by stage of development rather than age. Athletes are introduced to activities and skills that help develop social, physical and cognitive abilities. Athletes develop self-confidence, self-expression and group social skills, as well as processing instruction from adults outside of the home. Agility, balance and co-ordination are developed through the learning of fundamental movement patterns, including landings, static positions, locomotions, rotations, swings, springs and object manipulation. Development of gross motor skills includes running, jumping, climbing, rolling, twisting and catching. If you are looking for toddler and preschool gymnastics in Calgary, you are in the right place!

Foundation Program

The Foundations program allows athletes to learn and develop gymnastics skills and progressions based on Gymnastics Canada’s Fun, Fitness and Fundamentals educational philosophy, without the need to specialize in Gymnastics as a sport. As athletes advance through the various Foundation levels, they establish sound basic skills on gymnastics apparatus, posture and core-strength. This prepares athletes for more advanced gymnastics programs and for the transition of these skills to other sports.

Our Foundation Program is designed to seamlessly transition to either the Xcel Program or Development Program, both of which are nationally recognized competitive Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) programs. Foundations Levels 1-2 and Foundations Levels 3-4 are available for athletes ages 6-8, ages 9-12, and ages 13+. All Levels 1-2 and 3-4 classes are 60 mins/wk to suit both your schedule and budget. Foundations Advanced classes run for 90 min/wk to allow for extra training time.

Freestyle Program

Freestyle Gymnastics is an exciting and fast growing a modern form of gymnastics, originally developed by British Gymnastics, combining traditional gymnastics, dynamic acrobatic tricks, and stunt performance with kicks and jumps. This alternative form of gymnastics has seen a rapid growth in popularity in recent years, in part due to the creativity and self-expression it offers, appealing to individuals wanting to explore gymnastics in a less formal way, whilst still providing a range of physical and social benefits.

Traditionally, gymnasts are well known for their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, as taking part in gymnastics at a young age contributes to great all-round muscle strength, power and endurance. A young gymnast learns to use various parts of the body in different ways in coordination, which can have secondary benefits in other sports, general physical activities and everyday tasks.

Freestyle Gymnastics brings with it all the advantages of traditional gymnastics, and helps to improve overall fitness, strength, balance and coordination. In addition to the obvious health benefits, it also helps to enhance spatial awareness and improved self-esteem, as it provides a sense of achievement from boosting body image, behaviour, and self-confidence due to setting and meeting of both mental physical goals. Last, but not least, some will find Freestyle Gymnastics appealing due to its less competitive and more creative nature.

With all of the above in mind, Kin is introducing it's version of Freestyle Gymnastics in the hope of encouraging an even wider audience to take part in an alternative Gymnastics-based activity that caters to young people looking to participate in adrenaline-fuelled freestyle sports. Kin offers action-packed 60-minute Freestyle gymnastics classes for ages 4 to 18 as part of either the Freestyle Mini, Freestyle Junior and Freestyle Senior program. So what are you waiting for? Sign up now and let the fun begin!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are Kin's admin hours?

We are availabe on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM; Friday from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM; and Saturday from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. We are closed on Wednesday, Sunday and statutory holidays.

  • How does Kin's recreational program work?
    • All recreational gymnastics programs are offered on a month-to-month basis at a fixed monthly price. The monthly tuition costs for all recreational classes are based on four classes per month. Monthly tuition costs are automatically prorated when more or less classes are offered in a month due to the number of days in the month or holiday-related gym closures.
    • Athletes can sign up and join a class at any time and progress at their own pace until they have mastered all skills associated with the class, at which point the athlete may transfer to the next level.
    • When registering for a gymnastics class, you will be paying for the first month of classes upfront. Tuition charges will be prorated if you are starting mid-month.
    • After your initial registration, all classes will roll over at the end of each month. Payment for the monthly tuition for each following month will be charged to your credit card on file on the 15th prior to the start of the next month.
    • All recreational programs end on June 30th, at which point you will need to re-register for the next season.
  • Are there make-up classes, credits or refunds for missed recreational classes?
    • Full refunds for any of our programs can be requested only prior to the athlete's starting date, but will be subject to a $10 administrative fee. Monthly tuition fees are non-refundable once the program has started.
    • Due to our strict athlete-to-coach ratio, missed classes, including scheduled holidays, short-term illness or excused absences, will not result in make-up classes, prorated tuition, credits or refunds, since we will still be holding your child's place in that class and are unable to offer that spot up to someone else.
  • What if the class I want is full?

We do offer a waitlist option if the class you would like to register for is full. You can add yourself to a waitlist in the Kin registration portal and our Kin App, or you can email us at info@kingymnastics.com. You will receive a confirmation email when you have been added to a waitlist. We will contact you again by email when a spot becomes available. If a spot in the class becomes available and you decide not to take it, you will be removed from the waitlist. If you do not respond to our notification that a spot is available for you within the required deadline, you will automatically be taken off the waitlist. You do not need to pay for the class or the membership while on the waitlist, however, you will be responsible for full payment once you accept the spot.

  • Can I request a class transfer?

You can request to be transferred to a different class, day, or time in the Kin registration portal and our Kin App, or you can email us at info@kingymnastics.com. If you are requesting to move to a higher-level class, we will need to have the coach’s recommendation before we can grant the request. Coaches will normally let you know when your athlete is ready to move up (or down) in level. You will receive a Request confirmation when you first request a transfer. As soon as class availability and/or skill level requirements can be confirmed, you will receive a separate Transfer Confirmation email. Any difference in class fees will be processed automatically at this time as well. Transfer requests will not be accepted if there are any overdue charges on your account.

  • What if a training program or class is cancelled by Kin?

Kin reserves the right to cancel or change training progams due to insufficient enrolment, in which case a full class fee refund will be offered. In the highly unlikely event that an individual class is cancelled due to weather, power or staffing-related issues, an alternate training option or credit may be offered at Kin's discretion.

  • When does my athlete move up?

Our coaches track you athlete’s progress in our system, so you can monitor their progress in the Kin Registration Portal and in the Kin mobile app on an ongoing basis. These skill evaluations also for us to determine what someone is ready to move up a level. If your athlete has peaked in our recreational program – be aware that our competitive gymnastics coaches are always looking for girls to join their program. It’s why our coaches always assess participants within the recreational program and look for competitive candidates based on natural ability, strength, stamina, flexibility, and personality with a strong potential for growth.

  • What payment options does Kin accept?

The payment process through our  portal requires the creation of a user account with credit card in order to pay for your program. Please contact us if you require any assistance, or would like to pay with an alternate method of payment.

  • Are there any additional charges?
    • In addition to the monthly program fees, all athletes participating in recreational gymnastics must have a valid Kin Gymnastics membership. This is a mandatory annual membership, which includes a provincially mandated Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) membership for all registered gymnasts at any registered Gymnastics facility in Canada.
    • The annual Kin Gymnastics membership is valid from July 1st – June 30th of each year. KIN Gymnastics membership fees cannot be prorated and are non-refundable once the athlete has started. The current Kin Gymnastics membership fee for recreational gymnastics programs is $67.85 and will be charged to your account prior to starting your first training class.
    • Athletes upgrading to a competitive program will be required to upgrade their annual membership level as rates for competitive athletes are based on the level of gymnastics in which the athletes partake, ranging from developmental to provincial and national levels.
  • How do I stop or cancel my recreational gymnastics program?
    • Full refunds for any of our programs can be requested only prior to the athlete's starting date, but will be subject to a $10 administrative fee. Monthly tuition fees are non-refundable once the program has started.
    • You have the option to cancel or temporarily drop out of a recreational program, by providing 30-days’ notice before the 1st of the following month.
    • You can submit a drop date request directly in our online registration system or in the Kin app. Alternatively you can notify Kin Gymnastics in writing via email to info@kingymnastics.com. Drop requests will not be accepted over the phone.
    • You are responsible for payment for your child's classes, whether your child attends class or not, until the time you submit written notice of withdrawal or cancellation.
    • Please do not rely on your student to verbally let a staff member know that they will no longer be attending classes. If an athlete stops coming to class without notification, you will continue to be charged since we will be for holding the child's place in that class instead of being able to offer that spot up to someone else.
  • Does Kin offer summer camps?

Although Kin has hosted Summer Camps in previous years, we will not be hosting summer camps this summer.

  • What should my child bring to recreational gymnastics classes?

Athletes must have hair tied back, no jewelry and will participate barefoot to prevent slipping. Wear athletic clothing like a t-

shirt and shorts, leggings, a gym suit, or a leotard. Shirts should be fitted and long enough to stay tucked in. Avoid loose or

restrictive clothing such as jeans, skirts, dresses, hooded sweaters, or anything with buttons, zippers, or large decorations, as

these can damage equipment or cause injury. Please have your child use the bathroom before class to avoid unnecessary

delays. Athletes will be moving around and will likely be going upside down. Upset tummies lead to a mess for the instructor,

so ensure your child has had proper time to digest their meal before class starts. Bringing a full water bottle with the athlete's

    name clearly labelled.

  • Can I watch or take pictures during training?

We encourage people to watch their kids from the designated viewing areas in our gym, but be aware that space is limited and

please refrain from distracting or coaching from the sidelines as distraction can have dangerous consequences. Be respectful

and do not make negative comments about other athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, and staff. Individuals causing a distraction or being disrespectful will be asked to leave the site and may lose future viewing privileges. For privacy reasons, pictures and video are not permitted during training times. Flash photography can be extremely dangerous for the athletes and is strictly forbidden in the facility at all times. Coaches and staff will provide opportunities for pictures at special events.
